Mining is a sub-skill of surveying that allows the collection of metal slabs, silver, pyrite, etc.

Metals Slabs can be used for blacksmithing (a few NPCs also like Metal Slabs).

Similar to geology you will first need to learn surveying from Joeh and create a Mining Survey.

Once you have enough Mining skill through Mining Surveys, you will be able to mine nodes in certain locations for Silver, Pyrite etc.

Overview
A Lycanthrope's Beast form makes for a very powerful animal form. You'll be able to change to and from it at will, with the following limitations:
* You may become a wolf at any given moment, but your beast spirit will resist turning back to humanoid form until you've killed enough enemies (the higher your level, the less kills you'll require). Currently, level 60 lycanthropes may turn to and from wolf form without having to shed any blood.
* During the full moon, you will be forcefully turned into your beast form, and won't be able to turn back until it's all over. This happens once every lunar month, matching the RL moon cycles, for the three first days of it straight.
* Remember that turning into a lycanthrope is a PERMANENT CHARACTER ALTERATION THAT CANNOT BE UNDONE and won't be made reversible either. This means you'll have access to the benefits the skillset has, the ability to shift between your normal and beast form at any moment out of the full moon... but will also be stuck with its downsides from there on. Because of this, it's highly advised to carefully consider the pros and cons before making the decision.

While you're in beast form, you will have the following abilities, among others:
* The ability to combine different moves, dealing mainly crushing and slashing damage, with several side effects such as stuns, heavy armor damage, bleeding, and even a special "pack attack" that will deal increased damage for each werewolf attacking the same enemy. As you find Lycanthrope gear, you will gain several combos from it, similar to unarmed meditation or sword calligraphy ones, that will give you even more effects and aoe options.
* The ability to howl, eventually gaining a morale boost buff from it that will increase your out and in combat health regeneration. The morale boost buff can stack up to one hour duration for each werewolf that howls close by to each other, together. So five werewolves howling in the same place can stack a buff up to 5 hours each. Repeteadly howling will also eventually get you experience on the Howling subskill.
* The ability to feed on enemy corpses (currently, no limit to what you can eat, even tornadoes!), gaining a very nice regeneration buff from this, for a duration that will depend on your Beast Metabolism subskill (the more you feed on enemies, the higher this subskill will go).
* During the four days before full moon, and the first three days of it (when you're already force-shapeshifted), you'll receive the Lunacy buff, which increases your max health by +30. (Both in your humanoid and beast forms)
* You will receive the option to perform several tasks for Norala, goddess of the hunt, during the full moon. These quests will earn you tokens, which you'll then be able to turn in in exchange for different boons (extra max hp/power, werewolf damage, damage mitigation, abilities...) that will last you until the days prior to the next full moon
* Keep in mind that, once you become a werewolf, you'll be especially vulnerable to silver and wolfsbane, both in your humanoid and beast forms. Eating foods that contain wolfsbane, and being hurt by or simply holding a silver weapon on your hand, are sure to cause some serious damage and potentially kill you.
Altar of Norala
During the full moon, werewolves may now interact with an altar placed at the entrance of the werewolf den in Kur mountains. They may use it to perform several tasks for the goddess of the hunt, Norala, which will earn them tokens they can then spend on special abilities, unlocks and boons. The tokens will only last for the duration of the full moon, and the bonuses unlocked will last until the next one, so the lycans can get themselves nearly a month long boosts that will affect both their beast and humanoid forms.
As of the 11/9/2015 update, 3 tokens of Norala can be spent during the full moon in order to increase werewolf form's level cap to 60 permanently. Several other abilities are also permanently unlocked in the same way after this.

Surveying is a skill that produces surveys that lead to gems and minerals. Creating surveys increases the surveying skill, while using the surveys increases geology (mineral surveys) and mining (mining surveys).

Surveys come in several types:

* Mining Surveys are linked to the Mining skill and lead to metals such as Metal Slabs
* Crystal Surveys are linked to the Geology skill and lead to Redwall Crystals
* Mineral Surveys are linked to the Geology skill and lead to gems such as Quartz and Agate

How to start surveying
To obtain the surveying skill, you first need to become comfortable with Jaime Fatholm in South Serbule. This can be done by completing her 2 initial favors, which require 6 hardboiled eggs and 5 healing potions.

Once she's comfortable with you, she'll give you 8 redwall crystals and teach you the recipe for Serbule Redwall Crystal Survey and South Serbule Redwall Crystal Survey. In the recipe window, you see they require 1 Simple Parchment, 1 Basic Ink and 1 Redwall Crystal. The parchment and ink can be bought from Jaime.

Once you get all three ingredients you can create a Survey map by pushing the 'survey' button. The survey map will be placed in your inventory. You will need to be in the area (eg South Serbule or Eltibule) for which you want to create a survey.

The Surveying skill can also be obtained from Joeh in Serbule Keep.

Using a Map
Right click a survey in your inventory and a little red spot will temporarily blink on the minimap (it can be difficult to see if it is on a bright area, it seems to blend in). An on screen message will also give you approximate distances, though it is less practical. It can also help to enlarge your map window, by dragging the lower right corner.

Once you are near enough to the location indicated by the red spot, you click the survey map again, and you will get your crystal or mining reward. At that time you will also level your skill in either geology or mining, depending on the kind of survey.

A common technique for running multiple surveys is to sort the maps by the "quadrant" they're in on the map, and then run through each quadrant! Another helpful technique can be to mark the (closest) survey destinations with a Pin (Point of Interest dot) on the map; Once you are close to the dot you can right click the surveys to see if you are close enough. (Note be sure to remove the Pin after you collected the survey).
