* The default setup relies on the Tab key to cycle through all targets in the visible scene
* One strategy is to assign each category of previous and next targets to keyboard keys, allowing one to select more specifically
* Regular and high-resolution screenshot functions can be mapped to keys, high-res is resolution multiplied by special setting SuperScreenShotRes
* For example, I hide the GUI with Insert and take high-res screenshots with Home
Introduction
Personal Experience
I have been playing Project: Gorgon since February 2017, and used the Knife Fighting skill as primary nearly the entire time (paired with Psychology as secondary). Knife always struck me as an attractive option, perhaps because the "sneaky" play style, required to properly utilize some of Knife's abilities and mods, suited my taste. It's a skill that requires a bit more planning and improvisational tweaking than others, unlike skills where simply mashing buttons in rotation is sufficient to wipe the area of mobs. Knife requires you to think about your next move a bit more than your average melee skill because of the wide-ranging abilities available: Do I heal or use a DPS ability? Does this mob require an evasion or vulnerability debuff? Is the target outside melee range? Does the mob have enough health to make DoT viable?

For me, having flexible options for a skill is more important than overall damage or other super-specialization perks. Knife Fighting is able to provide that "jack-of-all-trades experience" without making unwelcome compromises.

A bit of History
As of early 2017, Knife was in a bit of a low period. It was extremely unpopular, lacking damage at higher levels and weaker than most others skills at combat support. Throwing knives existed, but the cost of using them was exorbitantly high because of the number of metal slabs required to make an ample sum of throwing knives.

May 25th of 2018 brought much relief with equipment mod improvements and ability tweaks, significantly increasing Knife Fighting's damage and overall usefulness overnight. Knife now occupied the off-hand slot in the form of Dirks, whereas main-hand knives were relabeled as Daggers. A new dual-wield only ability was added, although you could still use all the other abilities with only a Dirk or Dagger in hand.
These are the players main resources while in combat, used to stay alive, protect health, and use player skills, respectively. They can be regained through five diffrent ways: out-of-combat regain, in-combat regain, combat refresh, player skills, and consumable buffs. These diffrent types of in/out of combat are especially important to pay attention to as they have very diffrent rates.
*Out-of-Combat, is the regain when the player is not currently fighting any mobs. It is quite high compared to the other states, and it's free!
*In-Combat is a markedly lower regain of stats state while the player is fighting enemies. It's low regain makes it necessary for players to efficiently use their Combat Refresh while fighting. *Some player skills are healing skills or can be modified to give heals when they are used.
*Consumables are the food, flower, statue, meditation, ect... They require a item to be (surprise!) consumed or used to gain their buff, the better the item the better the buff, usually.
*Combat Refresh is the system used to restore armor, health, and power while in-combat. Activating a skill's basic attack will activate this, on a 10 second cool down, not all skills have basic attacks that will activate this however. See page for details.

Armor, as a resource, plays an important but subtle function in combat, it mitigates 1 point of damage for every 25 points of armor remaining and is lost when mitigating damage. So then armored becomes more effective per point, the more you have of it.

Power is consumed by most skills but there are some skills, like emergency abilities, that have no Power requirement, and typically have a longer cooldown. The amount of Power available and your ability to recover Power between encounters is very important if you hope to take on more than one enemy at once, or even solo dungeons. But be aware! <u>Running while in combat will drain power.</u>
Rage is a special resource used by monsters to activate their special attacks. As you hit monsters or they hit you, they gather Rage, and when their meter is full (an orange looking hand), they user their super power. There are some skills that "manage rage', as they decrease a mobs rage or slow its ability to produce rage somehow.

Vulnerability is another special mechanic for monsters, they periodically go into this vulnerable state and some abilities have a chance to cause it. Some attacks do extra damage against vulnerable monsters, so it’s sort of a whack-a-mole mechanic — you use your vuln-boost ability when you see the monster flashing vulnerable.<includeonly>
</includeonly>

General tips for choosing between the combat skills: <br>
- As a newer player consider having 1 primary combat skill and choose a support skill (e.g. Psychology or Mentalism) as your secondary. That will give much better ways to heal up during combat. There is also chart to indicate which combat skills can be used together.<br>
- As a newer player the Archery and Fire Magic can be very expensive to level in above level 10. (Archery requires specialized higher quality arrows for the higher level abilities. Those arrows are generally not available to be bought from vendors. You would have to also level Carpentry and Fletching to be able to make your own arrows.)

Attacks
There are two categories of attacks, Direct and Indirect.

Direct attacks are ones that are actively initiated by the attacker. They can be:

*	Melee attacks affect a single target with a range of 5m. Typically these are physical damage types, but also include spells like Fire Breath and Chill
*	Projectile attacks are ranged attacks of any damage type. This is not just arrows and thrown knives, but spells like Fireball and Necromancy's Death's Hold.
*	Burst attacks are typically magical area of effect (AoE) attacks that can strike 2+ targets at the same time. Spells like Ice Nova or Battle Chemistry bomb attacks are burst attacks.
* Indirect attacks are ones that either do damage over time (DoTs) or are the result of reflected damage. For example, Fire Breath does direct damage to a target, but also applies a DoT, doing damage every two seconds for 12 seconds. That DoT is indirect damage.

Another source of indirect damage are abilities that damage a melee attacker, such as Druid's Brambleskin or Fire Magic's Molten Veins. These do damage to a melee attacker when the they strike you. Some, like Molten Veins, even have a DoT component as well, but all the damage applied is indirect. Note that these will not react to a burst or projectile attack unless otherwise stated.

* Often with physical attacks, if the target is being made to bleed for a period of time as a DoT, the damage is Trauma.
* The environment of Kur Mountains and Gazluk is considered indirect cold damage, and gear/potions/abilities that give a bonus against indirect cold damage will slow the loss of body heat in those zones.

Evasion and Accuracy
Some monsters possess the ability to sometimes evade direct attacks. There are also abilities and gear that can provide this protection to characters. Monsters tend to have a general evasion stat that is applied to all types of direct attacks. Character gear and abilities tend to be restricted to one category of direct attack, so melee evasion, projectile evasion or burst evasion.

Being stunned negates any evasion for the duration of the stun.

Another way to circumvent evasion is accuracy. Some gear or abilities provide general accuracy, applicable to any type of direct attack. Others only provide a bonus for one kind of direct attack.

Indirect damage is not affected by evasion. If a DoT is tied to a direct attack, the direct attack needs to hit first before the DoT can be applied, but evasion is not applied to each tick of the DoT. Similarly reflected damage hits a melee attacker regardless of any evasion that they possess.

Levels & Skills
*A short explanation: (see Level for a thorough walk-through)
**Most MMORPGs use a numeric Level system to indicate the power of players, NPCs, and mobs. Project Gorgon does not do this. Skills begin at level 0, and do not show in the player's skill panel. To get level 1 (and a usable skill), the player will need to find the appropriate NPC/quest or item that teaches/gives the skill they desire.

*Skills
**These are what players use as abilities/skill/attributes that allows them to accomplish things in the game world. See:skills
**In Project Gorgon skills are increased by using them, so the more a player uses a specific skill the higher their level will be in that skill.
**It is important to note that if active skill levels are too far apart (more than 25 levels), abilities that are above the 25 level difference are grayed out on the skill bars and unavailable for use. The player simply needs to select lower level abilities in the skill in order to use the same abilities.
**To change active skills (archery, sword, necro, etc) click the arrow button that is on the left side of the skill bar you would like to change.

*Combat Level:
**A player has two combat-abilities they can bring to a fight, each with their own skill level, as well as the armor items that the player has equipped, this leads to a, hmm, 'hazy' view on what the effective level a player really is in combat. Generally players are considered on the levels of their two currently equipped skills with the assumption that they have equipment that is reasonably close to their skill's levels. NPC Foes are judged on a case-by-case basis, with none really having at true 'level', the player will have to make an educated guess by looking at the mob's stats, again see Level for complete details.

*First time's the charm
**Most events in the game reward bonus XP the first time you complete them. This applies to using recipes in various Trade Skills, to eating all types of foods (Gourmand), slaying foes (both common and bosses), dying in different ways, and even Binding yourself to a Teleportation Circle!

Death
*Death is a unique and new experience in PG for most experienced MMO players for a few reasons.
*Death is a skill, as in, each death is unique and each time a player dies they get experience in the Death skill that does in fact give bonuses to some attributes and other useful abilities...
*The game does have a Death Penalty, but only when fighting bosses. When a player falls in combat to a boss they will be cursed with that boss' unique curse, and the curses effects vary, from mildly amusing to being downright unpleasant. The player is then stuck with the curse until they defeat or find some other way to remove the curse.
*Otherwise when a player just dies, for whatever reason, they respawn at the entrance to the zone that they are in.
*One last Note on Death, it is possible for there to be a Death Penalty at all times, players who enjoy this type of play style can check out Hardcore Mode.
**To activate a player must interact with the sign in Serbule Keep, and it is 100% voluntary.

Yetta is an Elven merchant in Eltibule Keep. As an elf she is a clean freak so you may be required to take a bath before dealing with her (the bath can be found behind the crates in the same courtyard). She buys a bit of everything, which is convenient with the Goblin Dungeon entrance nearby. She has high hopes that the Second Column will arrive in Eltibule to reclaim the tunnels from the goblins.

Gardening Locations
Locations that allow gardening can usually be distinguished by the row of vegetables and cabbage on the ground.
; Serbule
* Serbule Keep, south part of town near Therese
*The farm west of town

; Eltibule
* Antry Farm east of Eltibule Keep.
*Basic plants usually require a Bottle of Water to be grown, while higher level ones require a Bottle of Fertilizer.
Seeds<br />
*Seeds can be bought from NPCs such as Therese, and often drops from creatures (for example Panthers in Eltibule).
*To plant a seed simply right-click the seeds in your inventory. You must be in a gardening area.
*Note that seeds are also prized as a gift for Hulon.
*Most seeds can be collected randomly by looting corpses.
*You can plant 2 seeds of every Vegetable, 3 of any combination of Flowers, and 5 Cotton in total (at the same time).
Bottles<br />
* Empty Bottles are returned to your inventory after utilizing a Fertilizer.
* Empty Bottles are returned to your inventory after utilizing a Bottle of Water.
* It is not necessary to buy a Bottle of Water from Therese after the initial investment. Full bottles cost 100 gold, but refilling bottles at the well in the middle of Serbule town is free.
Buffs<br />
*Having the Performance Appreciation buff active while gardening will increase the experience gained for each plant harvested.
*Playing an instrument or standing in the proximity of someone playing one while gardening will also randomly yield more harvest. You will be prompted when this effect takes place.
NPCs & Recipes<br />
*The recipe for Bottle of Fertilizer can be bought from Therese. That recipe takes one Strange Dirt.
*After gaining favor with her to Friend, she will also sell a followup recipe how to make Fertilizer from Bone Meal. At Close Friends Therese will teach you a recipe how to make Bone Meal from Femurs.
*After gaining favor with him to Best Friend, Kelim will also sell a recipe how to make Recipe: Basic Fertilizer (from Rotten Meat).
Hello! Name's Mox. Mox Warcut. My lovely fiancee and I are here doing research on the local flora. Are you a big fan of caves?
}}
Mox Warcut is a dwarf from Aufghel on a mission to explore Gazluk and study its flora. His fiancee Bellema Deftwhisper is working with him on the project. Mox can raise the Skill Caps on First Aid, Mycology, and Battle Chemistry.
{{Quote|
Well, I'm no Arisetsu-loving priest or anything, but I'm quite the healer in my own way. The dwarven way. With medicine. I guess it's the elven way, too, actually... I don't know what the rakkies use... probably medicine? Yeah, let's assume that. I've never seen a Rakshasa who loved Arisetsu...
; Who's Arisetsu?
What? Come on, she's one of the most important gods! Were you dropped on your head or something?
; Actually, a crone stole my memories...
Hah! That's a good one! Well, there's a book about Arisetsu in this cave somewhere. I found it among all the human junk that was left behind. It's rubbish though: just bard stories.

Arisetsu is the goddess of hope and warmth, so she gets a lot of prayers around here -- it being so cold and all. She loves the god of death... it's complicated. And she hates the god of hopelessness, Talerra. That's all you need to know, really.
; So you're a healer?
A mycologist, primarily, but also a healer, yes. And I'm pretty good with an alchemy potion! I've had to use my chemistry skills to kill quite a few people... which is depressing, you know? So I try to give back with the healing. I'm sure you can take care of yourself in the field, you look pretty resourceful. But if you need healing supplies, I'll sell you what I have for cheap.
; I'd like some information about the area.
Well, I haven't explored much, except for a few of the closer caves. But before we left Aufghel, I read up on what dwarves know of the place. I'm happy to share it, but it may be outdated.
; Tell me about Gazluk City
There was a war a few decades back. 'Sand War,' they called it, since it was in the desert that used to be the beautiful land of Ilmari. Anyways, orcs sided with the Crone Hegemony, who sided with the Rakshasa... but then the crones switched sides suddenly, and the orcs got caught in the middle. Now they don't trust anybody. Most of them were wiped out in the war. Surviving companies retreated here and founded Gazluk City on an old orc fort.
; I'm guessing it's not a friendly place, this "Gazluk City?"
No. Not even to fellow orcs, unless they're part of the local army. They used to welcome all orcs, as well as human traders, but Naurlok ruined that!
; Who's Naurlok?
Naurlock's orcs, the Snowblood Orcs, have lived in the mountains for generations and didn't take kindly to the new orcs. But instead of attacking Gazluk, which I guess would have been the "honorable" thing to do, Naurlok used Gazluk City's open-door policy to recruit hundreds of their younger and more gullible orcs away.

Dwarven miner-spies say that Gazluk's subterranean tunnels are very impressive, but now they're only half-staffed, and the lower floors are unused. Their army is still very powerful, but morale isn't great.

So yeah, that ruined Gazluk for everybody. Nobody can visit without General Hashk's permission. A few trade caravans visit during the spring, but otherwise, they kill on sight.
; Tell me about the Snowblood Orcs
The Snowbloods are an Orcish "distributed army." They have hundreds of troops all around Gazluk, as well as every mountain in the Kur range, and beyond. Very spread out! They're run by an orc named Naurlok. It's said that he can blow a special horn and orcs for a hundred miles will hear it, and that's how his army regroups. It's also said he's planning to take Gazluk City "soon."
; Is there a way to meet Naurlok?
If there is, I don't know it. Naurlok lives in a fortress buried beneath the snow. That's all the dwarves of Aufghel know about him.
; Tell me about the yellow crystals of Gazluk
They're called "Vol's Kiss." Well, that's the Dwarven translation of our name for 'em. But you know us dwarves: we love Vol, almost as much as our own god Ormorek, so all kinds of shit gets named after him. I'm sure the Council has a different name for them.
; What do they do?
They kill you. Slowly, sometimes, or quickly. Depends on the person. But they're full of magic! A magic that's hard to find elsewhere. With proper prep, they can make amazing armors and weapons. I'm not a crafter myself, so I don't know any details. But I do know that lead-lined storage boxes can protect you from the sickness. Really, any storage is better than keeping them in your pocket!
; So these crystals are valuable for crafting?
Only to people who know what they're doing! Dwarves have our own sources of magic for armor, much safer than Vol's Kiss. But if you were to bring a lead-lined chest of the stuff to Aufghel, I'm sure you'd find a rich buyer. Just don't try to sell it to yokels in the various human outposts. It'll kill 'em before they even know what's happening. This stuff makes iridium seem safe and harmless by comparison!

Overview
Transmutation allows you to change, or reroll, a mod on a piece of gear. (Note: "mod" is used interchangeably with "treasure effect" and "treasure mod") This consumes phlogiston and durability. The higher the level of the item, the higher the tier of phlogiston consumed. The ability to pick and choose treasure effects is huge, and it's not an understatement to say that this is the most powerful skill for min-maxing gear. Please note that transmuting anything will ATTUNE that gear to you, making it useless to other players.

NOTE: Differences between Transmutation and Augmentation: Transmutation lets you change the mods on your gear, whereas Augmentation lets you add one additional mod to a piece of gear. With Transmutation you distill items into phlogiston and use a transmutation table to make changes. With Augmentation you decompose items into beads and baubles in order to extract a mod from one item and place it on a different item.

Mechanics
Distillation
You can distill non-white items (anything that has a mod) into phlogiston. Each distillation has a chance to consume a Prism, depending on what tier the distilled equipment is.

The quantity of phlog given depends on the tier of the item (Uncommon, Rare, Exceptional, Epic, or Legendary...see Items for a breakdown). Speaking very broadly, Uncommon gives 2 phlog, Rare gives 4-5, Exceptional gives 6-7, Epic gives 8-10, and Legendary gives 12-13.

The tier of phlog (Shoddy, Rough, Crude, Decent, or Nice) depends on the level of the item. Generally, the highest level requirement for the item is used. A sword that requires level 55 Sword and level 30 Psychology would distill into Decent Phlogiston. The table below maps level to phlog tier.

Level Range
Phlog Tier
0-10 || Shoddy
15-25 || Rough
30-40 || Crude
45-55 || Decent
60-70 || Nice

Transmutation
Transmuting an item will change a selected mod to a different, randomly chosen, effect. To do this, find a Transmutation table (list of locations below). Interact with the table, drag an item to it, and choose the mod you wish to reroll. You must unequip gear before transmuting it.

When you select a mod to reroll, you will get a prompt telling you how much phlog and durability will be consumed. Rerolling a mod from a normal combat skill costs 35 phlog and 25% durability. The tier of phlog required depends on the tier level that the mod belongs to, see the chart above for the exact ranges. EX: Rerolling a level 55 sword mod will require 35 Decent Phlogiston.

If you reroll an Endurance or generic mod, the cost is 20 phlog and 20% durability.

All skills have a list of specific mods that are available for each slot (Head, Chest, etc.). The new mod will be chosen from that list, and is guaranteed to NOT be something that is already on the gear. EX: Let's say that there are 10 possible mods for Fire Magic MainHands. Let's say you have 2 Fire Magic mods on your current Staff. If you reroll one of them, there are 8 possible mods it could become.

Due to the random nature of transmutation, it can be very frustrating or very satisfying. You should be aware that you can roll many, many times without getting the mod you want...that's just how luck works.

Bug: After transmuting a mod, you are given the option to try again. IF YOU CLICK TRY AGAIN, YOU ARE NOT GUARANTEED TO BE REROLLING THE SAME MOD. This is because the game generally puts the "new" (rerolled) mod at the bottom of the list, but will try to transmute from the mod's old position if you hit "Try Again". To be safe, it is recommended that you instead choose "All done." and re-drag the item to the transmutation table.

Note: The game will allow you to transmute an augmented mod. Your gear will still be useable, but that piece of equipment will not be un-augmentable. If you try to undo the augment, you'll receive an error message.

Tip: ANY tier of a mod will "block" all tiers of that mod from being rerolled. In other words, if you had "Riposte Damage +11%" (level 5 mod) on your gear, any rerolls on other mods would never result in any tier of "Riposte Damage +X%". This means that you can augment a low-level mod that you do NOT want on your gear to increase your chances of getting the mods you want. Using the example above, say there are 10 possible Fire Magic Staff mods and our gear already has 2 of them. Normally any reroll would be picking from a pool of 8. Instead, before transmuting, say that we augmented a mod that we definitely didn't want the reroll to become. Now you're choosing from a pool of 7. Once you've gotten the mod you want, you simply undo the augment (see Augmentation). This method is definitely a bit more tedious than just transmuting, but may be worth it in terms of time/gold/phlog/prisms saved. Make sure that you do not accidentally transmute the low-level augment, see the Note above.

Durability
Durability is consumed every time you transmute an item. Having 0% durability will NOT stop you from being able to wear and use that gear, but you cannot transmute if you don't have the required durability. You can repair an items durability with Transmutation Recipes, but each one sets a timer on that piece of equipment. That equipment cannot be repaired again until the timer expires. For the max-level repair skill (repairs 100% durability), the timer is 7 days.

If you're trying to transmute gear in search of specific mods, you could probably use a list of possible mods for a particular skillset. You can visit Gorgon Explorer for a player-run database of every mod (the Mod and Build Planner tabs are particularly useful). Mods are also available on the wiki at <skill name>/Treasure Effects. (Example: Fire Magic/Treasure Effects)

This stuff makes iridium seem safe and harmless by comparison!
; I'd like some information about the area.
