Timothy Elerimon was a human who managed to stave off the werewolf madness for a while. It wasn't long, but it was long enough to write his knowledge of weaponry and equipment so it could be passed on.
The fight with Elerimon is tough. He heals armor on-hit (exactly like the Hoplology bonuses, which you can learn from the book behind him) and has plenty of defensive stats.
