Fishing Overview
Fishing is a skill which earns experience as you catch fish, which in Alharth is a hands-on experience. The traditional fishing method involves swimming up to a fish and just grabbing it. Travelers from Orc-based regions may be more familiar with Angling, which is an unusual method of fish acquisition requiring both a wooden pole and some bait.
Fish collected through Fishing are commonly used in Cooking recipes (often in a filleted form), but sometimes can be used in other skills such as Alchemy or Calligraphy. Advanced cooking subskills such as Sushi Preparation are also reliant on Fishing.

Training Fishing
- Ukorga teaches the recipes for ice fishing.
- Rugen unlocks levels 51-60 and 61-70.
- Levels 71-80 and 81-90 are unlocked by Dunahain Broadarm deep beneath Povus.
- Levels 71-80, 81-90, and 91-100 can be unlocked by Justin Smoot in Statehelm.

Each time you catch a fish and clear the node it can respawn as another type of fish/crab. So it is best to fish everything.

Fishing Mechanics
Swimming
Catching fish often requires swimming, which is not tied to any particular skill. The default keys to adjust depth in the water are R (rise) and F (fall). PageUp and PageDown are alternatives on some devices.
While swimming is not a skill, going underwater triggers the appearance of a breath meter. In Ocean based regions such as Sun Vale, fish can be found at various depths. Adventurers trying to be efficient as they level Fishing might want to seek out methods to increase their breath meter, such as consuming an Alchemy crafted

Ice Fishing
Ice Fishing is a fishing mechanic which involves deploying timer-based fish traps at specific ponds in cold regions. Recipes to craft these traps can be learned from Ukorga, a Rakshasa merchant operating out of the Northwestern Outpost in the Kur Mountains. The mountains themselves are home to five ice fishing holes in the southern half of the zone. Higher level Ice Fishing gear level bait traps yield greater fish than lower level traps, but also increase the types of catchable fish.
